Well Water Filtration

Well Water Filtration

Well Water Filtration Systems offered by One Eight can help improve the taste and smell of the water while removing potentially dangerous chemicals.

Approximately 11% of Irish people get their water from private wells.  Water sourced from wells or other natural sources such as lakes or rivers is likely to be contaminated with bacteria, iron, manganese, sulphur, and many other impurities.  This, in turn leaves homeowners with many problems.  From brown stains on your bathtub to smelling water from your kitchen tap, these impurities turn out to be frustrating for an end-user.

It becomes your responsibility to ensure the water you are drinking is safe for consumption.  If your water is supplied by a private well, it is vitally important that you are aware of the contaminants in your water. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends periodic testing of water for total coliform bacteria, nitrates and lead.

Lime Removal

Water from wells is typically very hard and many homeowners benefit from getting our water softening systems installed.  Water Softeners remove hardness causing minerals (calcium & magnesium), resulting in soft water that is easier on your water-using appliances such as boilers, washing machines, dishwashers, electric kettles etc.  Soft water provides skin and beauty benefits, as it does not damage your hair and skin.

Soft water also saves you a lot of money due to the increased efficiency of appliances, reduced energy bills, and no equipment breakdowns.

BENEFITS OF SOFT WATER

  • Long-Lasting Appliances
  • Reduced Energy Bills
  • Bright & Clean Laundry
  • Soft & Gentle Skin
  • Smooth & Silky Hair
  • Better Cleaning

Bacteria Removal

Bacteria such as E.coli and coliform are found in most shallow wells, and their concentration may vary depending on rainfall.  We do not use chemicals to treat bacterial contamination.  Instead, we treat it using ultraviolet filters.  It is one of the safest ways to remove bacteria from your well water.

THE BENEFITS OF UV LIGHT BULBS INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Disinfects without chemicals.  Ultraviolet wavelength does not leave by-products in water like chemical disinfectants.
  • Adds no tastes or odours.  UV disinfection does not chemically alter the water in any way, shape, or form.
  • Easy to maintain.  An annual UV lamp change is the most frequent maintenance need.
  • No water wasted.  UV treatment does not waste any water in the process.
  • Cost-effective.

PH Correction

Water with a low pH is acidic and should not be consumed.  Anything with pH less than 7 is acidic and every point below neutral levels increases the acidity exponentially.  Acidic water is a major household problem as it leaves blue/green staining around bathtubs and sink.  Over time, this acidic water corrodes your plumbing fixtures and water tanks.

Our pH Systems neutralise the pH levels in water, so it is safe to consume and does not damage your hot water tank and pipes.

Odour Removal

If your water smells like rotten eggs, it might be due to the presence of sulphur in the water.  Contamination levels may quickly and without notice increase dramatically, and become a major issue.  If left unattended, it may corrode your taps and other metal components.  The pH of water also impacts the solubility of the gas.

To remove sulphur, we usually recommend an aeration system along with activated carbon filters.
